During my study economics, I started working 25 years ago in the financial department of finance the local government of Guayaquil, Ecuador. After this, I worked as a financial specialist in the Bank of Guayaquil, the second largest bank of Ecuador and with Price Waterhouse as a financial auditor.
In 1991 I moved to Bolivia and made a move into a completely different sector. There I worked as the financial manager of a not-for-profit foundation working for indigenous people in eastern Bolivia. The Foundation sets up projects in agriculture and forestry.
In 2000 I got the chance to start working with a national program that searches for the integration of Information and Communication Technologies in development projects in Bolivia. The programs are supported by the International Institute for Communication and Development, based in the Netherlands. In this program ICT is used to strengthen agriculture, forestry, education and
governance. Within the program I focused on the evaluation of the impact of the projects on the ground. You can see how we do this in a video: http://www.iicd.org/video/tic-bolivia-the-m-e-process
I set up my own company, GEPROBOL in 2004, to formulate and lobby for large-scale projects in
Bolivia supported by the Spanish Government and to advice the Government of Bolivia on ICT
programs in agriculture and education.
Even though now at another scale, interestingly, all these projects included a vast component of telecentres and capacity development similar to the Cyberzouk. Some of them focus particularly on strengthening the capacity of women! When I arrived in the Netherlands in 2006, I sought an opportunity to share my experience with a similar project here in Amsterdam, and at the same time
to get to know the Dutch culture and language. And in practice I found much more than I expected:
an intelligent and enthusiastic group of women. This is what I found as a volunteer training in the Cybersoek project!
